Château Yquem

The history of Château d'Yquem goes back more than 400 years of passion.

Without a child and anxious to guarantee the future of Château d'Yquem, Bertrand de Lur-Saluces anticipated his own disappearance. In 1966, he named one of his brother Amedee's sons, Alexandre de Lur-Saluces, to take over at the head of the estate.

The beginnings of the young count are not easy. A series of bad years, a violent trade crisis and massive inheritance taxes make Yquem vulnerable and threaten her survival. The estate will be saved by a rigorous management and an excellent year 1975, after three successively disastrous vintages. During the 1980s, better harvests helped to raise the bar and make new investments. In fifteen years, the potential of production is slowly recovering, with a level of requirement and an even greater technicality than in the past. At the twilight of the twentieth century, Château d'Yquem, a true monument to great wines is acquired under the impetus of Bernard Arnault by the group LVMH Moet Hennessy-Louis Vuitton, a new page in the history of Yquem begins to write.
