Veuve Clicquot

Coming from a family of bankers and textile traders, Philippe Clicquot owns vineyards and "founds wine trading under the sign Clicquot". His ambition is to "cross the borders". The first Clicquot champagne expedition is destined for Venice.

With the untimely death of François Clicquot, the founder's son, Barbe Clicquot Ponsardin, his 27-year-old widow decided to take over the management of the family business and became one of the first businesswomen of modern times.

In July 2010, champagne bottles unique in the world, including 47 of Veuve Clicquot champagne, were found in wrecks off the Finnish Åland Islands at the mouth of the Baltic Sea. Despite nearly two centuries spent at the bottom of the sea, their content is extremely well preserved.
