The oldest winery in Calabria.

In 1845, when Maison Ippolito 1845 was founded, Vincenzo Ippolito put his initials on the country house in the port of Cirò. And so, among the vineyards, olive groves and orange groves, this beautiful house, the oldest winery in Calabria, flourished.

Although wine consumption was strictly local at the time, Don Vincenzo Ippolito, the founder's grandson, took over his grandfather's business after the First World War and, developing the company, offered new markets to his Cirò. He was the first Calabrian winemaker to bottle his Cirò, adding value to the grapes from his best vineyards. His wine is now marketed not only in Calabria, but also outside the region.

In the 1960s, the beginnings of modern viticulture appeared in the vineyards of Ippolito 1845, thanks to the brothers Antonio and Salvatore Ippolito who took over the management of the company. Mechanisation was sought without losing sight of quality, and some foreign markets were already being approached.

A turning point in the history of Cirò: the first production regulations were established in 1969, with Ippolito 1845 being one of the main architects of this important step.

The following decades saw the expansion of the winery, the arrival of the first national and international awards and, in 1989, the birth of Colli del Mancuso Cirò Riserva, the first grand cru in Calabria. Research was developed and new technologies were introduced... all with a view to enhancing the value of the indigenous vines (Gaglioppo, Greco Bianco, Calabrese, Pecorello and Greco Nero).

The estate now covers more than 100 hectares, spread over the hills and sunny plains of the Ionian Sea. It produces elegant Italian wines imbued with the identity of their terroir, for 14 labels now present on 4 continents: product quality and entrepreneurial dynamism go hand in hand here!
