- Box of 6
Description
The Castelgiocondo estate, located in the southwest of Montalcino, is perched at an altitude of about 300 metres, an ideal terroir for the production of Sangiovese.
The village of Castelgiocondo overlooks the historic Frescobaldi estate in Montalcino, an ancient fortress built in 1100 to protect the road from the coast to Siena. The estate was one of the first four to begin production of Brunello di Montalcino in 1800.
Its historical importance is highlighted on the labels of Castelgiocondo wines, which bear the illustration of a knight from a famous fresco by the Sienese painter Simone Martini, who depicts Guidoriccio of Fogliano, commander of the Sienese troops, who led the attack on the castle of Montemassi.
A historic moment that coincides with the beginning of the Frescobaldi's age-old adventure in the world of wine.
