Description
Louis Roederer is one of the few champagne houses to have remained a family business since it was founded in 1776. Champagne Louis Roederer's greatest capital lies in its own 242 hectares of vines - located on the best terroirs in Champagne - harmoniously distributed between the three main production regions: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. On average, 98% of the vineyards are classified as Grand Cru, covering two-thirds of the House's grape requirements. The jewel in Louis Roederer's crown is the Cuvée Cristal. It was created in 1876 especially for Tsar Alexander II. The grapes come exclusively from the 10 best terroirs in the Louis Roederer vineyards. They are classified as 100% Grand Cru and come from vines that are at least 25 years old.
Tasting
Eye: Bright golden yellow with warm highlights. Fine, dynamic beading with a very persistent chain of bubbles.
Nose: The bouquet is immediately apparent, rich in wine and beautifully fresh at the same time. A range of ripe, fine fruit, including yellow fruit (mirabelle plums, pinot noir) and sweet citrus (lemon tart), as well as delicate notes of white flowers (jasmine, chardonnay). After a few minutes, autolysis aromas emerge in the form of smoke and pastry notes.
Mouth: Densely concentrated on the palate, deep, expressive and well-structured, with the bewitching texture of the fleshy Pinot Noir from Lage Montagne characterising the mouthfeel and bringing with it an immense saline freshness with a hint of bitterness.
