Description
Situated in north-eastern Portugal, in the Douro River basin, surrounded by mountains that give it particular ecological and climatic characteristics, the Demarcated Douro Region was the first region in the world to be demarcated and regulated, in 1756, under the auspices of the Marquis of Pombal. It is in this region that one of the "classic" wines is produced - Port wine.
It covers a total area of around 250 000 hectares, divided into three naturally distinct sub-regions - Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. It is characterised by schistose soil slopes and a Mediterranean climate, with very cold winters and very hot, dry summers. These conditions are very favourable to the full ripening of grapes and, consequently, to the production of excellent quality wines.
It is in this unique terroir that Douro Wines' vineyards are located!
Tasting
The ROLA Gouveio shows the typicality of the grape variety. The aroma reveals notes of tea, and the palate is full and long-lasting. A well-balanced wine with great acidity.
