Description

Appleton Estate 21 Years is a sweet to spicy molasses rum that has been stored for at least 21 years in traditional American oak casks - a very long time for a tropical distillate, as the warm temperatures intensify and accelerate the maturation process. The Appleton Estate distillery in the Nassau Valley is one of the oldest rum producers in Jamaica. Sugar cane has been grown on their premises since 1749. Today, the distillery owns around 4,400 hectares of land, from which over 200,000 tonnes of sugar cane are harvested each year. There is also a separate cooperage, which ensures that the rum matures perfectly in the casks.

Tasting

To the eye: A mahogany colour with olive green highlights, the result of over two decades of maturation in Jamaica's tropical climate.

On the nose: A complex bouquet combining floral notes, hazelnut, vanilla, orange peel, nutmeg, hot coffee and cocoa, offering a rich and bewitching aromatic palette.

On the palate: A smooth, balanced attack, with flavours of tropical fruit, caramel, spice and wood. Notes of sweet oak, vanilla, orange, nutmeg, coffee and cocoa unfold harmoniously, mirroring the complexity of the nose.

Food and rum pairings: Ideal drunk neat in a tasting glass, this rum also goes well with dark chocolate desserts or spicy Jamaican dishes.

Serving temperature: Recommended at room temperature, between 18 and 22°C, to fully appreciate its complex aromas.
