Description
Château Beychevelle, classified 4ᵉ Grand Cru in the 1855 classification, is an iconic Saint-Julien estate. Its history is closely linked to that of the Duc d'Épernon, great admiral of France in the XVIIᵉ century. Legend has it that ships passing the estate would lower their sails as a sign of respect, hence the name ‘Beychevelle’, meaning ‘lower sail’. L'Amiral de Beychevelle, the château's second wine, reflects the same high standards of quality as its elder brother, offering a more accessible expression of the terroir while retaining the elegance and finesse characteristic of the estate.
Tasting
The 2018 vintage was the scene of a play in two acts.
A FIRST PART OF THE SEASON...
The cold and particularly rainy winter of 2018 allowed the soil to build up precious
water reserves for the rest of the season. The mild and wet spring and humid, was favourable to the development of the vine... but also to but also for mildew. Particularly careful monitoring of the vines was necessary in order to avoid losing the risk of losing the harvest.
A SECOND PART OF THE SEASON VERY DRY AND SUNNY!
Exceptionally, four dry and sunny months followed one another until the harvest. Without suffering from drought, thanks to the rainfall accumulated during the
the first period, and by alternating cool nights and hot days, the vine days, the vines benefited from optimal climatic conditions to produce to produce fresh and concentrated grapes.
This vintage shows a balance rarely achieved at this stage. The ripe red and black fruit bouquet invites us to discover an intense and intense and harmonious palate. Very silky tannins carry a fruit of freshness and concentration.
