Description
Château du Tertre is a property steeped in history. This property has existed since the 12th century and its 52 hectare vineyard has remained unchanged since 1855. It was in the 19th century that the wines of the Château gained worldwide renown, notably thanks to the 1855 classification which made Château du Tertre a Grand Cru Classé Margaux. In 1997, Eric Albada Jelgersma bought the estate and made major investments in order to restructure the estate and give the Château its character and nobility.
The vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir in the Margaux appellation. The grape varieties are 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The average age of the vineyard is 35 years. The château's team, which has remained unchanged for more than 10 years, maintains traditional methods while combining innovation with tradition. In particular, they take care to limit the development of each vine. Soil maintenance, leaf removal and thinning reveal the excellence of the terroir. The Château has opted for a wooden vat room, with gravity-fed tanks. The estate has equipped itself with concrete truncated-cone vats. These small capacity vats allow the best parcels to be isolated and vinified separately.
On tasting, Les Hauts du Tertre offers us spicy and fruity notes, with the true aromatic complexity of its big brother. An elegant and silky wine, worthy of the wines of Margaux.
