Description
The Domaine de Léoville, one of the oldest vineyards in the Médoc, belonged to the wealthiest and most influential French noble families until it came to the Las Cases family.
As a result of the French Revolution (expropriation of the property of emigrants, creation of the equal division), the estate was divided between 1826 and 1840. By a sort of survival of the right of descent, Léoville las Cases, which represents 3/5 and the heart of the old estate, was then created.
The current Grand Vin terroir is therefore the historic heart of the original terroir, and has been since the 17ᵉ century. The gate, the emblem of the estate, opens onto an enclosed area of about 55 ha surrounded by a stone wall delimiting its terroir and extending from the village of Saint-Julien to Château Latour.
Since the end of the 19ᵉ century, Léoville las Cases has been managed by the same family, currently represented by Mr. Jean-Hubert Delon, the sole owner.
