Description
With its undeniable natural wealth and assets cultivated over the centuries, Château Montrose is one of the most privileged wine-producing areas in the Bordeaux region.
The 95-hectare vineyard has the exceptional and very rare characteristic of being historically in one piece, around the Château, the cellars and the farm buildings. This unity facilitates the work of the vineyard. It allows a global reflection on the vineyard, an optimal vigilance on the sanitary state of each parcel and a more efficient organisation of the work of the vine.
The terroir of Château Montrose corresponds to what geographers call the "elite nuclei". A complex geological stacking of several million years has favoured the creation of this ridge, which benefits from a natural drainage towards the estuary, ideal for the production of great wines.
This incredible puzzle of soils is reflected in the wines produced at Montrose as they are both the result and the synthesis of each micro-terroir.

Tasting
A brilliant success, the Montrose 2021 is reminiscent of a modern, purer and more precise version of the estate's 1996. It reveals itself in the glass with aromas of blackcurrant, pencil sharpener, soft loamy soil, black truffle and nicely integrated new oak. It's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with terrific core depth, lively acids and a seamless, harmonious profile. With beautifully refined tannins and impressive fullness, it's a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. This is one of the few great wines of the vintage to contain more Merlot and less Cabernet than in recent years.
