Description

A Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château d'Armailhac takes its name from the d'Armailhacq family, who became owners in 1660, and whose history is marked by the precursors of modern viticulture, such as Armand d'Armailhac. In 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild acquired the estate, which was subsequently taken over by his daughter, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild. Today, his three children, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, carry on the family tradition with the same passion and attachment to the terroir, and the same quest for excellence and innovation in both the vineyard and the cellar.

Château d'Armailhac's 76 hectares of vineyards, with an average age of 40 years, are spread over three hilltops. This distribution enables it to benefit from all the typical characteristics of the Pauillac appellation. Its terroir, composed mainly of deep gravel, clayey to chalky-clay soils and gravelly sand, is planted with classic Médoc grape varieties. The Cabernet Franc grapes, which are the result of very old massal selections, are remarkable and make up a large proportion of the vineyard's production.

Tasting

Eye: A ruby colour with brilliant highlights.

Nose: Fine and elegant, revealing scents of redcurrants and raspberries, combined with notes of brioche and violet.

Palate: The attack reveals juicy, mouth-watering fruit underpinned by well-coated, mellow tannins. The palate, balanced by a fresh, mineral structure, reveals delicate chocolate aromas mingled with a smooth, silky texture.

The finish is harmonious and lingers on crisp, slightly sappy fruit.
