Description
Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, in the south of the Pauillac appellation, is a prestigious estate that was separated from Château Pichon-Longueville Baron by inheritance in 1850. Classified as a Second Grand Cru in 1855, it was restored to its former level of excellence in 1978 by heiress May Eliane de Lencquesaing, who almost equalled the quality of Château Latour. Since 2007, the estate has belonged to the Champagnes Louis Roederer family, who have modernised the vineyard with precise parcel mapping.
The estate covers 87 hectares, 76 of which are in the Pauillac appellation and 11 in the Saint-Julien appellation, shared with Château Latour. It is these arid, poor soils that force the vines to seek ever deeper resources, giving the wines their quality and complexity.
