Description
Maurice Drouhin was for many years Administrator of the Hospices de Beaune, then Vice-Chairman of the Administrative Commission of the Institution from 1941 to 1955. At the same time, he ran the Joseph Drouhin wine merchant-breeder business.
His generous donation of high-quality vineyards constitutes one of the largest areas of Beaune Premier Cru in the Domaine des Hospices.
It covers 2.69 hectares, with 40% in Les Avaux, 25% in Les Champs Pimonts, 25% in Les Boucherottes and the remainder in Les Grèves.
Tasting
‘Quite a deep colour, with a powerful nose of ripe candied fruit and spices. It has a good structure on the palate, without being hard. A good Corton must have ‘fatness’ (a velvety texture) to counterbalance the tannin and acidity. On the palate, it is reminiscent of the candied fruit on the nose. Very long and persistent, it finishes on a very complex note.’
