V. do Rio 2018

Since their first harvest at Quinta Vale D. Maria, back in 1996, they immediately knew that there were unique characteristics in every parcel.

One of them, their oldest parcel and the one with lower altitude and closer to the small river Torto that passes through Vale D. Maria, was especially unique, with its gentle flowery and spicy aromas.

In the harvest of 2009 they decided that it was time to show the wine from this very special vineyard on its own. they called it Quinta Vale D. Maria "Vinha do Rio" (Vinha do Rio translates into the river vineyard).

Quinta Vale D. Maria Vinha do Rio is an incredibly deep coloured red wine. There are shades of deep violet, purple and dark red. This wine is made from a 100 year old vineyard that produces a concentrated wine, full of mature red fruit aromas, with a high complexity and elegance that only such a vineyard can create. It shows aromas of raspberries, plums and black cherries, combined with fresh notes of rock rose. All aromas appear with a certain discrete elegance as the wine opens and evolves in the glass.
