Description

The Penderyn distillery is the only distillery in Wales and is located in the eponymous town of Penderyn, in the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales. Production began in 2000, when there had been no distillery in Wales for over 100 years. Penderyn's first Welsh whisky was presented to the public in 2004 in the presence of Prince Charles of England, Prince of Wales, on St David's Day, the bank holidays of Wales. The whisky became an instant success and was sold out on the same day. Penderyn's exquisite whiskies are appreciated by whisky lovers around the world for their superior quality and delicate flavours, and have won numerous awards. The distillery itself was named ‘Microdistillery of the Year’ by the Malt Advocate in 2008. After increasing its capacity, the distillery now produces different types of whisky as well as other spirits such as gin, vodka and liqueurs.

Tasting

Nose: A lovely blend of fresh cranberries, raspberries and dried fruits such as plums, dates, figs and sultanas with vanilla and cinnamon spice.

Palate: Spicy, toasty oak, wild red berries and nutmeg with hints of bitter dark chocolate and sour cherries.

Finish: A cornucopia of spices with light berries.

The Welsh Penderyn distillery distills its distillates in a single stage in a unique Faraday copper still, which means the distillation process is very gentle and the fine aromas are preserved. Matured in an old port cask, this rare Welsh whisky is characterised by wonderful fruity and berry aromas that make it a true taste experience.
