Description
From the same owners as Lafite-Rothschild, Château Rieussec is one of the greatest estates in Sauternes and Barsac. The 93-hectare estate lies on the border between Fargues and Sauternes, close to the vines of rival Château d'Yquem. Since 1984, Rieussec has belonged to Domaines Barons de Rothschild, who have made major investments in the cellar and vineyards. This increase in quality, including grape selection, has enabled production to be reduced: here, one vine produces around one glass of wine. Fermentation takes place in new oak barrels, made by their own cooper. The resulting wines are powerful but classically structured.
The name Carmes de Rieussec refers to the Carmes de Langon monks who owned the Rieussec estate in the 18th century.
Tasting
The second wine of Château Rieussec is selected on the same basis as the grand vin.
Its permanent characteristic is a fine aromatic amplitude with a dominant citrus palette.
